A Message from QuynhChi
Happy Friday and Happy New Year!
Wishing everyone a year full of great health, happiness, and love. Thank you for an incredible 2021 and for all of you who have continuously engaged with and supported VABANC over the years.
Over the past year, we deepened our long-standing programming, expanded our membership, and launched new initiatives. In the midst of the pandemic, we kept our VABANC legal clinic open, connecting those in our community with vital legal help. We endorsed candidates for political and judicial positions, including Thien Ho for Sacramento County DA. We produced and held a CLE course to teach members and the public how to protect their assets during the pandemic and this year was also the inaugural year of our Diversity & Inclusion initiative. Our mentorship program continued strong with new mentorship families, a trivia night, and an autumn celebration in Napa. We also connected with our sister organization, VABASC, for our organizations’ first ever virtual joint mixer. Finally, I’m most proud of our members who left their own families for a week to represent VABANC in volunteering for the Afghani refugee resettlement effort in Wisconsin.
Even though we had to cancel our largest fundraiser of the year due to unpredictable COVID surges, we were still resolved to provide scholarships to exemplary students in our community. Congratulations to our scholarship winners Felicia Hipps, Loc Ho, and Andrew Tran. Also congratulations to our Trailblazer Cindy Chavez, and our Community Impact Award recipients, Huy Tran and the Vietnamese American Roundtable. Please join us in celebrating them at the Award Ceremony Virtual Celebration in the coming weeks.
I am so proud of the VABANC board and for all of our accomplishments in 2021 and I’m very excited about what 2022 has in store for us! We have a wonderfully energetic leadership team returning this year- candidate bios are below. Please submit your formal vote now for your executive officers!
Finally, organizing, invigorating, and supporting our membership is a priority for VABANC as we turn our contributions and lend assistance to our community at large. To maintain our core programming, we need all of the support you can provide – in contributions of both volunteer time and monetary donations. Please sign up for our membership – it’s free, and, if you’re able, please donate through our website.
We need additional member participation in all of our committees. If you are interested in joining and/or can lend your time for any program or committee work, please sign up here.
Yours with much appreciation,
QuynhChi Nguyen, President
